ABOUT
Discover a little hidden nest in Saltrød, just outside Arendal, where ancient trees, sea views and Scandinavian simplicity come together.
Our Philosophy – A Home with a Story
The name Spett Nest comes from the Norwegian word “hakkespett”, meaning woodpecker — one of the frequent visitors to the trees surrounding our little nest.
Spett Nest was created with a deep respect for nature. We built among the trees, not into them, allowing the landscape and wildlife to remain an essential part of the home. Much of the structure is gently elevated on wooden pillars, minimizing disturbance to the ground and helping us preserve the established root systems of the surrounding trees.
Wherever possible, we chose reclaimed, recycled and reused materials, giving new life to what already existed and making sustainability part of the story of the nest itself.
But for us, sustainable tourism is also about the people who choose to stay here. Spett Nest is for those who love nature, appreciate silence and find joy in the simple things — waking to birdsong, waiting quietly for a woodpecker to appear among the trees, or watching deer visit their familiar surroundings.
We invite our guests to enjoy this beautiful place with care: to use water thoughtfully, sort and reduce waste, respect wildlife and leave nature as they found it. Inside the nest, we provide separate containers for sorting different types of household waste, making it easy for our guests to take part in responsible recycling during their stay.
We believe that travelling sustainably does not mean giving up comfort; it means becoming a little more conscious of the place we are privileged to visit.
From the way Spett Nest rests lightly on the land to the materials that shaped it, and the trees, birds and animals that surround it, every choice is part of a story of respect, simplicity and a deeper connection with nature.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Up in the cozy loft, two twin beds come together to form a king-size bed, while a comfortable sofa bed provides additional sleeping space downstairs — all tucked into your own private little nest.

A beautiful garden sheltered beneath towering trees, with a charming dining area and peaceful spots to relax. Fire up the grill for a delicious meal, gather around the table, or simply slow down and enjoy the ever-changing views of the sea and the forest.
Sea swimming nearby
Just a 200-metre walk, a small beach awaits for a refreshing swim. A little further along, discover Paulus holme, a rocky islet with diving boards and spectacular views of the bridge stretching across the sea.
Weekly cleaning service
We lovingly keep your little home fresh and welcoming with weekly cleaning, included in your stay. Additional cleaning can be arranged upon request.
